i think you're a sweet girl, i would have tried to help that bat, too! teaching people about rabies awareness and being safe around strange animals is very important. i'm elated that a kind and beautiful girl like you could be around to tell the tale.

My sister in Milwaukee told me about your case at the time and I found it fascinating! I am so glad you are doing well. I have a cat hospital in California but veterinary public health is an area of special interest to me. I diagnosed a rabid cat here in 1987, and we fortunately have not seen any domestic animal rabies since. We do have a LOT of rabid bats in the area so I always tell my clients to avoid handling them. I tell them that only ONE person (you) has ever survived it, so it's best not to take chances. Glad you have this website - rabies will always be with us, and so will the need to educate people. Jeanna, congratulations on your recovery from symptomatic rabies. I saw a very good documentary on your case on Discovery Channel several years ago. Unfortunately, DC never repeats this doc, despite the fact that DC repeats most of its programming over and over. Yours is a wonderful story of faith, family and medical science. You were blessed by the Lord! I hope things have gone well for you since the doc was filmed.
