Read a story about you, and towards the end someone asked if you "regretted" picking up the bat. You replied, "kind of..." You've been through hell. But, Wikipedia is now reporting that four other people have now survived rabies using the protocol that was first used on you. Had you not had the compassion to pick up and try to save a helpless animal, those four people would have undoubtedly died. Your suffering and pain that you endured has already saved four other lives. As the treatment is refined and people gain hope, more people will be saved. All because you decided to pick up a sick bat.

I teach microbiology, and have been following your case in the news online and sharing it with my students since 2007. Glad that you are doing well, and have started a website, blog, etc... Very inspiring.

Been following your story for ages. Truly inspiring. I too love animals (and have rescued squirrels) and am happy that your bad experience didn't turn you off them.

Very inspiring story! Its amazing how you were able to survive! Its a testament to you spirit and will. What a truly tragic price to pay for helping a little critter. Bats are amazing and misunderstood as it is, what bad luck that the one you try and help ends up sick=(

Amazing story! And amazing writing too, might I add. I don't have rabies yet I still find your story very inspiring. I was actually researching if squirrels can or can't contract rabies for a Biology project and found your story. I'm very happy for you and your family and to hear your happy ending!
